You may already know Refinery29’s Money Diaries… this is our own version of it! We’ve put together a few questions to understand what women are doing with their money. Let’s break the taboo and talk more about finances!

Finance Assistant. Bristol. 24. Single.

💭 Financial goals:

Short term (1-5 years): Buy a flat. Have some really great holidays with my pals. Start investing.

Medium term (5-10 years): Buy a second property to rent out. Have children!

Long term (10 years +): Have not only a fulfilling career but also side projects that produce income without me having to do too much. Renovate a property into my dream house.

🌟 Best buy ever: A 3 week trip to Indonesia with my best friend. Met some incredible people and saw some beautiful places (cliche, I know, but it's true).

😳 Worst buy ever: Cheap, shitty clothes and constant snacking. Tesco loves me.

👀 Things you spend the most money on: Nights out and eating out. After a big weekend I usually delete Uber off my phone to resist temptation for a while.

💸 Salary / Income: £25,000

💰 Net worth (what you own vs what you owe, or your assets minus your debts): £10,500

💻 Any side hustles: None! Have been racking my brains for one though...

👛 Savings: I have £5,500 in a LISA at the moment - I pay at least £200 a month into it and whatever else is left over that month.

🏠 Home: Buying next year!

🔦 Debt: I am fortunate enough to have no debt at all. I did an apprenticeship instead of going to university and so haven't accumulated any student loans. I only use my credit card on purchases that I can afford outright anyway, to help my credit rating.

📈 Investing: I use to have shares held in a Hargreaves Lansdown account but came into a period of unemployment at the beginning of the year and so cashed them in to tide me over. I do have a LISA though and am contributing to my pension through work. Next year I would really like to start understanding investing more.

😌 Pension: Yes, through NEST at work. Once I've purchased a flat I'm going to increase my contributions to really make use of the compound interest.

🔮 Insurances: None... that's bad, I know.

⚡ What is money for you? To me personally, it means being able to treat myself and my loved ones to experiences and gifts that we'll remember forever. It also means being able to eat good food. On the flip side, I've seen people turn into real dicks when it comes to money - I would never want it to consume me.

🚀 What is financial independence for you? Not having to rely on anyone to live the live I choose to live.
