What On Earth Are We Doing With Our Money?
You might already be familiar with Refinery29’s Money Diaries… well, this is the Vestpod version! We’ve put together a few questions to help us understand what women are doing with their money, and they've answered! Always fun, always succinct, and always anonymous.
Graduate Trainee. Nottingham. 23. Single.
💭 Financial goals:
Short term (1-5 years): Save enough to move out and buy my first house, continue enjoying having an income post university instability and minimum of 3 holidays a year (1 long weekend to relax in the sun, 1 long weekend to explore a new European City & one big exploration holiday).
Medium term (5-10 years): Upgrade of a house, save for potential kids (maybe need to find a partner before then!) and begin a side business doing something I love, so related to happiness, quotes or books.
Long term (10 years +): An early retirement, money to treat my mum & dad with and enough to live comfortably whilst seeing the world!
🌟 Best buy ever: My flight to Bali. It was a £500 return but whilst I was out there I valued the culture of true happiness without masses of money. The people were caring, inspirational and life changing.
😳 Worst buy ever: Tacky Going Out Clothes whilst at Uni! Why did I ever think mini denim skirts and trainers looked good for a night out?
👀Things you spend the most money on: Definitely holidays, eating out at beautiful places and the petrol for my commute.
😌 Pension: Yes, through my work.
🔮 Insurances: Life Insurance.
💸 Salary / Income: £30,000.
💰 Net worth (what you own vs what you owe, or your assets minus your debts): £10,000.
💻 Any side hustles: Sadly not, but I hope to in the future. Just waiting for an inspiration!
👛 Savings: Yes - I have a Help to Buy ISA, another House savings, a Car Savings, an 'Emergency Fund' and most importantly, a holiday savings! I try and save 50% of my monthly salary.
🏠 Home: No, but hope to move out independently and buy a house in the next 4 years.
🔦 Debt: £0 in Credit or Overdraft - I worked regularly throughout my degree and always bought the cheapest food & gin possible! I obviously have the rather large Student Loan to repay though, a little at a time!
📈 Investing: I just have my workplace pension for now.
⚡ What is money for you? It's a powerful matter than influences people and their decisions far too much. For me, it helps me to live a life I love, but I appreciate the value of the real things in life more, like family, friends, happiness and making memories.
🚀 What is financial independence for you? Being able to stand alone without financial support - with no worries and the comfort of savings.
